چکیده

Structural and compositional features of bacterial membranes and some of their isolated constituents (cell surface lipopolysaccharide, phospholipids) of the plant-growth-promoting diazotrophic rhizobacterium Azospirillum brasilense (wild-type strain Sp245) were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and some other techniques. FTIR spectra of the cell membranes were shown to comprise the main vibration modes of the relevant lipopolysaccharide and protein components which are believed to be involved in associative plant–bacterium interactions, as well as of phospholipid constituents. The role and functions of metal cations in the structural organization and physicochemical properties of bacterial cell membranes are also discussed considering their accumulation in the membranes from the culture medium. q 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. PVC undergoes a high degree of dehydrochlorination when exposed to energetic photons. The released HCl (acid), however, can be trapped if a suitable trapping material (base) is also enclosed within the solid matrix as a result of formation an acid-base adduct. Color changes or electrical conductivity changes can easily be obtained if suitable acid-base indicators or conducting polymers in their...

The results of a series of ab initio (3-21G) and semiempirical (PM3) molecular orbital (MO) calculations on neutral, zwitterionic and cationic forms of dopamine [1,2-benzenediol-4(2-aminoethyl)] are reported. In particular, optimised geometries, relative stabilities, dipole moments and electron charge distributions for the relevant conformational states of the studied molecules are presented an...

The F N method is used to compute the classical X and 1⁄2 functions for use in the solution of a class of non-grey radiative-transfer problems defined for finite layers. The model considered allows for scattering with complete frequency redistribution (completely noncoherent scattering) and continuum absorption. Some test problems based on Doppler and Lorentz profiles of the line-scattering coe...

A recently developed version of the discrete-ordinates method is used along with elementary numerical linear-algebra techniques to establish an e$cient and especially accurate solution to what can be called Chandrasekhar's basic problem in radiative transfer, namely the problem of computing the radiation intensity in a "nite plane-parallel layer illuminated by an incident beam of radiation and ...

We describe in detail a software implementation of a current version of the 1-matrix method for computing light scattering by polydisperse, randomly oriented, rotationally symmetric particles. The FORTRAN 1-matrix codes are publicly available on the World Wide Web at http://www.giss.nasa.gov/&crmin. We give all necessary formulas, describe input and output parameters, discuss numerical aspects ...
